campbell. >>> we're tracking daly city flooding. tara moriarty is live on the scene. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. you know, the damage here is pretty incredible. if you take a look behind me here, you can see where the mud and the water ended but it began all the way up the hill where those trees are and this entire neighborhood is just basically -- has mud all over the streets. about two dozen people had to be evacuated off bonnie street. the mud swept down the street. deputy was the first news -- ktvu was the first news crew to arrive on the scene. we saw the water mixed with the mud gushing down the hillside. the brake happening off luzane avenue and bonnie street. crews have it under control. the water has stopped racing down the hill. we spoke to the neighbor who called 911 initial. he said it was scary -- initially. he stayed was scary initially. >> the entire lawn was covered. there was a stream going down the street. i went downstairs and i got on my cell phone and called 911. >> reporter: the mud is up past the car tires at some -- some of the vehicles. severa

. hillary clinton would appear next month. >>> new information about the water main break in daly city. the flow of mud and water was twice as big as first thought. ktvu's ken pritchett is live in daly city. >> reporter: at first the city said 45,000 gallons of water came from that pipe, sending mud flowing down the hill into a park. we have video from news chopper 2, showing you the effected area. the city says 97,000 gallons of water came from that pipe. a believable amount given the mess left behind. >> reporter: piles of hey rolled out on mud, these are the steps the city is taking to shore up a mudslide with rain on the way. >> not to have any mud flow impacts. dress the concerns -- address the concerns they have. >> reporter: this is tuesday morning after a water main break sent mud flowing into the neighborhood, burring the street and cars in mud. today the street is clear but the park is still buried in mud. the goal is to stop more mud from coming down into the streets. >> here is what crews were able to do in 36 hours, dig this channel so any rain that falls this weekend should be

cleanup is underway after that flood and mess made a midwest of the daly city neighborhood. tara moriarty was the first on the scene to bring us the dramatic pictures and is live to show us how the hillside has changed. tara? >> reporter: well, the hillside that got swept into the neighborhood, for right now, what the public crews works are trying to do is dig this street out of this landslide. tens of thousands of gallons of water mixed with mud gushed down the hillside. >> the entire lawn was covered. there was like a stream going down the street. >> reporter: he lived near the water creek where a pipe burst. >> i called 911. >> reporter: 40 people had toking evacuated -- to had to be evacuated. neighbors were in bewilderment. this woman's daughter said her car couldn't drive to work this morning. >> nobody can get out of the street. >> reporter: public crews and neighbors spent most of the morning trying to dig out of this. while the city repairs the broken pipe neighbors have much more concerns. does it make you worried it is unstable? >> i think so. >> reporter: now, luckily

daly city are working to shore up that hillside that turned one neighborhood into a mountain of mud. ktvu tara moriarty is out there again this morning. how does it look tara? >> reporter: well, the goal here is to make sure the rain doesn't make the situation worse. you know the city originally said that broke in that ruptured water main unleashed 45,000 gallons of water. now it's looking more like 97,000. certainly a believable amount. now crews have set up bails of hay and laid netting on top of a thick layer. the disaster left dozens of cars trapped in the mud and buried in the street. right now the concern is the storm drains that they don't get backed up. >> the idea is do what we can to relay the concerns of the residents not to have anymore mud flow impacts. address the concerns they have with these rains coming. >> reporter: today the street is clear but hillside park is still buried in four feet of mud. the goal is to keep more mud from slipping and rebuilding the hill which is obviously a much more long-term project. live from daly city i'm tara moriarty. >>> happening ri

daly city neighborhood after a mudslide and new information on the calm calm that caused the mudslide. you can see a completely different situation than when the water was flowing. on tuesday it was massive mud and water. ktvu's ken pritchett joins us from daly city. you learned the amount of water and mud is much larger than first thought. >> reporter: yeah. at first the city said 45,000 gallons of water and mud and essentially buried this city park and flowed into the neighborhood. now the city says it was more than twice as much. not 45,000, but 97,000 gallons of water that created this mess. >> reporter: this is a picnic table, the top of it, buried in 3 feet of mud. the mud came from the hill slide. this is the park and neighborhood tuesday morning a steady flow of water sent mud into the street. burring cars. some are still caked today. the job of city crews today was shoring up the slide area. >> all the debris stays here because we have the pending rains coming. >> the goal is to stop more mud from flowing into the neighborhood this weekend. the mud was topped with er

the park which really created a muddy mess out there. >> reporter: daly city clean up crews responded immediately. dozens of big trucks hauled the heavy wet muck away all day. equipment included a fleet of huge cleaning vacuum trucks. you have to get this stuff while it's still pliable because down there in the sewer it can set up like concrete guaranteeing more flooding in future storms. right now it's very, very critical to get it washed down while you can see it's still malleable and we can get it out of the storm drain. >> reporter: now the major problem remaining, what to do about that big gash in the hill above. consumer editor tom vacar, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> let's give you a live look now from our own news chopper 2. you can see the difference 12 hours makes. we just showed you pictures of how the street was covered with muddy water. and we just showed you the live pictures and you can see how crews are cleaning it down. one resident said he woke up thinking there had been some kind of storm. he then looked outside and saw his lawn covered in mud and the stream of mud flowi

. live in oakland, ken wayne. >>> police in san francisco say a daly city woman has surrendered, and has admitted she is responsible for a hit and run accident involving a bicyclity. it happened monday in the presidio. the woman surrendered last night, after police reported that police were looking for a hit-and-run driver. the cyclist told us he suffered a major concussion. he also lost his bike, which he says was stuck to the front of the vehicle. the damaged bike was later found. police say the woman apologized, but is being charged with felony hit-and- run. her name still hasn't been released. >>> more problems tonight for toyota. the company is recalling hundreds of thousands of prius hybrids. many prius owners are just now hearing about this recall. >> reporter: frank, many toyota customers told us they bought a prius because of its gas mileage and dependability. tonight, school teacher marian mark drove her 2007 prius to the downtown toyota of oakland dealership to get her tires checked. she told us she wasn't aware of the latest recall. >> if there's a recall, i'm glad they'r

what greeted daly city residents after a broken water main unleashed a torrid of mud. residents can are concerned about heavy rain in the forecast toward the end of the week, amber. >> reporter: ken, city workers planned to return to this neighborhood first light tomorrow morning to clean up the mess that's still here at hillside park. they'll preparing for the rain that's expected later this week. by nightfall crews were still spraying off what mud what left on sidewalks, roadways and vehicles after a day long vehicle records. a sight welcomed by neighbors. some said the mud soaked streets kept them from going to work. >> reporter: why couldn't you go to work? >> i could not drive out, i could not walk because it was 3 feet deep. >> reporter: another neighbor tried to drive through the mess, the result a wheel taped in mud and a note that read, will be picked up by insurance company. >> i told him he should not run the motor because i was worried the mud would fill the catalytic converter. >> i'm really scared that mud could come again. because there's that one spot that came down

miscommunication. a young boy who was reported missing is now back home in daly city. and it turns out he didn't even know he was missing. amber lee tells us how police found this little boy. >> reporter: police tell us they used every resource available to find this little 11-year-old boy. he was found near palocita school at 11:00 p.m.. we went to the home of the boy. while we were speaking to the family, police called to tell us that the boy had been found and that they were trying to locate the father. when we told police we were with the family they asked us to let us know he was safe. >> police just found him. >> really. >> they just found him and they are going to call you any minute now. >> hello. >> mr. ren handed the phone to his stepson when detectives called because he doesn't speak english. >> hi, hi. okay where? >> reporter: in mandarin, the father thanks police. the boy's stepbrother says he is relieved. >> very happy right now. >> we caught up with father and son after they were reunited with each other. >> how are you doing? >> good. >> where did you go? >> to my friend's
